the good and the bad 11-5-06

We went to brunch yesterday at my friend Suzanne's house. We had so much fun, we all did. Elizabeth, (who I stayed with up north) was there with her family as well as her sister Katherine and her husband. Everyone got along great, the kids played well, the husbands were chatty, and the food was delicious. I am now kicking myself that I didn't get a picture of the spread. Hopefully someone did. We had a wonderful morning with friends.
After we left, we came home and I did some organizing. I was looking for a necklace that I could not find and it was driving me insane, where was that necklace?! Robert left around four to go by his mom's house and run some errands. I was expecting him home for dinner. Around 6:45 I get a call, that he is not going to make it, he's been in an accident. I immediately ask if he's fine, yes he is. My next question besides, "what happened?" is, "how is the car?" Not good. :( I gather up the boys, and drop them off at my sister's house (thank you Chris), and take off for the accident. My heart nearly stopped when I arrived. I couldn't even see Robert's car, it was just a maze of cars and flashing lights. Traffic was a nightmare. I finally see Robert waving me to a spot where I can park. I grab the camera and get out and go find him. After we hugged, I got the story of what exactly happened. Five cars were involved. Robert had been stopped at the light going east just minding his own business. A truck going north, made a left turn in front of someone. The other driver (poor thing, she had no where to go), hit his truck, which then caused the truck to start spinning. Robert watched the whole thing happen and thought that he was lucky, that it missed him. Well, we know that is not true. The back of the truck was off the ground, still spinning/skidding heading directly for Robert. Robert thought the truck was going to crush him, he said his life flashed before his eyes. He tried to lean as far as he could to the right, and waited for the impact. Thank God, the truck landed on the hood of our car, on the driver's side. Robert walked out of the car, scratch free. The 2 other cars that were involved got hit with a bookcase that flew out of the back of the truck. Everyone involved walked away. The jerk that hit everyone has insurance but not a driver's license. Now we are wondering what will happen to our little Saturn, affectionately known as "White Lightning" :) We don't know if the car will be fixable or totaled. That little Saturn that we bought after my beloved Jetta was totaled. That little Saturn that drove me all over LA and Century City. That little Saturn that drove Robert out to Burbank. That little Saturn that brought our newborn Charlie home from the hospital. That little Saturn that is just a car, it's no big deal.
And guess what Robert found after he got home? My necklace.

Notice the tire track across the hood? Nice.
