fabric for the boy's quilts

I am trying to get things ready to go with the quilts. I started sorting the fabric today and I knew a couple of you wanted to see what I'll be using. Most of the fabric was either purchased at my local Joann's Fabrics or a little local quilt shop. I can't wait to see how they turn out. I have an idea in my head, the problem is I don't know if it will match the actual outcome. :)

one last thing

I scavenged and found a true "before" picture. Now keep in mind this was on one wall. Here's the thing. It was 1998, on one wall, it matched the duvet color, it was Martha Stewart "geranium". That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Oy.

the color is done

We have color on the walls. I repeat, we have color on the walls. After a little deliberation and compromise (on my part), we chose a color for our bedroom. It is a light, light, light yellow green. The correct name is Feldspar, from Behr. I really do like it a lot. I wanted to go a little darker, but now I'm glad Robert put his foot down, and we picked this color. I have been trying to organize the room now. One of the biggest things I did is move a lot of my scrapbook and stamp stuff out and into other areas. The room is so pretty, I don't want to junk it up again with all my supplies. I cleaned out a closet in our hallway and made room for a lot of scrapbook supplies. I'm still reworking some things, but what an improvement. Here is the "after" picture. I used the flash here which I don't normally use, but it was too dark otherwise. The quilt(s) are still a work in progress, but I ordered some of Heather Bailey's Freshcut fabrics, and they match our bedroom perfectly. Robert liked them too, so now I've got to decide what I want to do with them. :) Decisions, decisions.
I will try to get some photos of those soon, at least of the fabrics I am using for the boy's quilts.

happy hearts

Whew, it has been a whirlwind of activity around here. I haven't been around much. We had a wonderful anniversary dinner, just the two of us. We went back to the Summit House, (where we had Thanksgiving dinner last year) and here is the funny thing. We used a gift certificate that we got for a wedding present. Yes, that would be TEN YEARS ago. I know, I know. In my defense, it was lost. Miracle of miracles, I happened to find it the night before. I'm not kidding, I really couldn't make this up. Needless to say, the restaurant thought it was pretty darn funny. Better late then never, blah, blah, blah.
Friday I helped out with Harrison's little Valentine day party. Today I helped out in Charlie's classroom, and today is my dad's birthday. :) Love you, dad.
Last night I had my monthly meeting with Harrison's school group and got to hear this gentlemen speak on God's providence throughout history and our lives. Very interesting evening. Thursday night I have a meeting for my M.O.M.S. group at church. And Friday night I'll be in bed by 8:00.
And, to top it all off we are painting our bedroom. Ask me what color. I'll let you know when we figure that out. Right now Robert is painting the primer to cover up our beautiful (trust me, it once was) coral colored wall. We are heading over to Home Depot tomorrow.

Ten years ago today I married Robert. Lucky me. :) I love him. A lot. Some things have changed after ten years, okay, a lot of things have changed after ten years. The biggest thing is that now we have two sons. We are parents. I couldn't imagine I would be the mommy of two boys back when this picture was taken. I think I probably was just looking forward to the reception. The wedding was stress free and a great time. It was also my grandmother's birthday. Nana had our entire reception singing "Happy Birthday" to her. She was truly surprised. My cousin Lesley and her husband missed the wedding, they had their own momentous occasion, the birth of their first son. It was just a special day all around.

After much procrastination and confusion, my sewing machine cover is done! I could not have done it without my mom, who talked me out of a nervous breakdown after I tried to pin the corners myself. Thanks mom.

my childhood quilt

I managed to get some photos taken of my quilt this weekend. It has a lot of damage, which I prefer to think of as "love". Nana pieced this together from what I can imagine was an incredible stash of fabric. She made a good portion of our clothes, and had fabric from things she had made for my mom. My favorite is the heart pattern, those little hearts are flocked velvet. She embroidered "Sweet dreams Jenny" on it in Spanish. Why she did it in Spanish, I've no idea. My sister's is in English. I find this pretty funny, because from what I can remember, Nana didn't speak a lick of Spanish. My Grandmother did, maybe Nana got the idea from Grandma V. :)

books, tv and music

I was thinking the other day that I love this cookbook that I have and I should share it here. Then I started thinking about all of the other things to share, and of course, it snowballed into this huge list. So I decided to keep it short and to the point.
My bookclub is currently reading "Gentlemen and Players" by Joanne Harris. This is my pick. So far I have to say that it is very good. My mom is farther along then me, and she can't put it down.
I've been using the Crock-Pot lately. It is still a little chilly here, perfect for the Crock-Pot. I love this book, the title alone is funny. "Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook." No offense mom, I know they didn't mean you. :) Every recipe I've made has been very good.

As far as music goes, I just bought Carly Simon's, "Into White". I have it on in the car, and today we were listening to track #3, "Oh! Susanna" and Harrison said that the music was very pretty and it reminded him of being on a boat out in a lake with a swan next to us. So if that isn't a recommendation, then I don't know what is. The whole album is very relaxing, very mellow and child friendly. My favorite is #4, "You Can Close Your Eyes".
Quite a departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I want to get "Stadium Arcadium" next. I do love those crazy Peppers.

And in regards to tv, I watched the finale to Top Chef last night. What a ho-hum season this year. At the end, I didn't care who won. I'm still trying to decide if I am going to watch Top Design. I am thrilled that tonight is The Office. I love this show. I started watching it from the beginning, and it is the one show I truly look forward to every week.

Oh! I forgot to mention my quilt. Well, it is still nonexistent, ;) but now I have a plan. I came across this at the "All Sorts" blog, from Jenny B. Harris. Nine patch quilt. I think I can totally do this. I am so excited to try. And in other quilt news, my mom found my childhood quilt that Nana made for me. What a trip down memory lane. We were picking out all of the swatches that we remembered and what kind of clothes they came from. I will try and take a decent picture to share with you.

That vintage plant stand was a surprise gift from my mom and dad right before Christmas. It was Nanas. My mom remembers it being in their home while she still lived there. So, it is over 40 years old. It was rusted and chipped. I wanted it, but didn't know where I could get it re-done. My dad found a place and got it done for me. I L-O-V-E it. I think I will fill it with mini succulents.
