While the boys were over at my mom and dad's house today (while I finished up some wrapping) I was thinking about what to take a picture of for my 12 Days of Christmas photos. There are plenty of things around here that I could use, but then I thought of the stockings. I love, love, love my childhood stocking. I love all of them. Here is a photo of the stockings at my parent's house. The four original (mom, dad, sis and I) were made by my Nana. My mom made the rest. Each little doodad on the stocking has some significance. For example, my mom has her Greek sorority letters, I have Robert's initials and a felt chinchilla. (We had 2 chinchillas while growing up).
These stockings inspired me to make a couple for the boys. I could NOT buy some stockings. As pretty as some of them are, (and I have been tempted), I just couldn't do it.
Be sure to click on the photo so you can see some of the detail.
*Tomorrow is my appt. where the doctor will exam me to see if anything has started. I'll let you know the outcome. It is getting harder and harder to sleep. Other then that, I feel fine. :)

Wow! I love those stockings! What a great tradition! (I also love all the wreaths above the fireplace!)
Those are so great! I have been meaning to "exchange" our stockings. I'm not really happy with them.
Oh - those doctors appointments always turned out disappointing for me... hope yours turns out good!
Stockings make me so happy. My daughter said the other day that stockings were her favorite thing about Christmas. So sweet.
Oh my gosh, funny thing about you still having your childhood stocking...
I still have my childhood stocking as well. It's red felt, with white lambswool on the cuff, and it has my name spelled down it in black felt letters that my mom cut out and glued on. I have never, in my entire life, owned another stocking.
Once we started having kids, I started making their stockings as well. I even made one for Barry, since Santa likes to bring him goodies, too, for being such a great dad/hubster and all. ;)
Barry has always greatly disliked my poor, old stocking. LOL He tells me every year that he's going to just go out and get me a new one (which would be compltely out of character for him, since her NEVER shops, LOL) because mine is so old and "crusty" and small, compared to everyone elses in our family. I always tell him not to bother... I've had it this long, I'll enjoy having it for years to come. :)
Now that we're in a house with a fireplace and a mantle on which all the stockings are proudly displayed, he dislikes it even more. LOL I think it's quaint and charming. (Isn't that what you call things that are old, small, and a little worse for the wear?? ;) LOL)
